“We must dare to invent the future.” –Thomas Sankara

In 1804, the Haitian people overthrew colonialism and white supremacy, and made the dream of liberation a reality–not just for their own community, but for oppressed peoples all over the world. It is from this historical moment of new possibility that we take our name as 1804 Books, and it is from this revolutionary moment that we take inspiration for this calendar.

Following the socialist tradition of making pocket calendars, we intend for this agenda to encourage you to keep action and struggle at the forefront of your mind as you move through the year. Enclosed in the calendar are words from writers like Gerald Horne, Charisse Burden-Stelly, Layla Brown, and Vijay Prashad, as well as activists like João Pedro Stedile, founder of the Landless' Workers' Movement, and Bertha Zúniga Cáceres of COPINH (along with many other orgs!). Each month is marked by a moving quote from a revolutionary figure, and features beautiful art from our talented comrades like Vienna Rye (@vrye), shenby g (@leftaesthetic), and more.

We hope you are inspired by the words and art of our comrades enclosed in this calendar, who turn to lessons and people of the past, while prompting us to consider what a new world—by the people, and for the people—will look like.
