Bonosky (an author and political activist) wrote the bulk of this study in the 1980s; some observations have been added to this edition of the events that took place in the 1990s when the Taliban took power. The text, based on the author's personal observation of events in Afghanistan, encompasses a far-left view of American activities there that in hindsight may be recognized as prescient.
